Join us for October's Venture Cafe Cambridge Connect where we'll be celebrating and delving into what makes Cambridge a distinctive place to start, build and grow globally significant companies whilst looking ahead at what the ecosystem needs to sustain that success.
One showcase, every stage of the journey; this innovation showcase will celebrate the full spectrum of Cambridge's innovation ecosystem, from bold new ideas to businesses that have scaled and stayed. This is an opportunity to get a real feel why Cambridge is the most innovation intensive cluster in Europe.
Meet our showcasing companies:
🔹 Cambridge Advanced Materials (CamAdMa): A University of Cambridge spinout based at St John's Innovation Centre, taking high-performance polymer composites and conductive materials from early-stage R&D to volume manufacture for aerospace, space, energy, electronics and robotics.
🔹 Archipelago Technology: Enabling the move from plastic to sustainable packaging with Powerdrop, a coating that makes paper and moulded fibre packaging waterproof and oilproof while working with existing recycling infrastructure.
🔹 SuperSharp: A University of Cambridge spinout developing low-cost, self-aligning space telescopes and thermal infra-red mapping from space, air and ground for climate monitoring, building energy efficiency and security.
🔹 Lambda Agri: Helping growers produce up to 20% more food from the same sunlight, with a spray-on coating that converts unused UV light into red light plants can use.
🔹 HutanBio: Discovered Sphaerica, a marine microalgae that produces oil at three times the yield of conventional crops, offering a carbon-negative bio-oil feedstock to decarbonise aviation, shipping and heavy transport.
There will be meaningful networking opportunities throughout the night, accompanied by a selection of refreshments and activities.
Why Cambridge, Why Not? celebrates what makes this place distinctive for building globally significant companies, and what it takes to sustain that success.
In this hands-on session, delegates shape a small clay 'release stone', infusing it with wildflower seeds, inscribing it with what they're ready to let go of and a date to release it by. Each pebble is wrapped in a simple hand-folded origami box to take away, a small, tactile pause before the evening's networking resumes.

Find out more about The Cambridge Pledge from Executive Director Sara Allen.
Cambridge is a great place to start, stay and scale a company. But what makes it work, and what could make it work better?
The panel discussion will explore why companies choose Cambridge, what the ecosystem has enabled for their growth, and where the challenges emerge as they scale. Most importantly, they'll look ahead to what Cambridge needs to do next to remain one of the best places in the world to build innovation-led companies.
This evening is also a taster of what's to come at the Innovate Cambridge Summit the following week, so expect big ideas, candid insights and plenty of conversation.
